I started PREYSIGHT because I was tired of paying logo tax on glasses I was scared to drop in the lake. This is the comparison I wish I'd had: what each kind of fishing glasses really gets you on the water, and what you're actually paying for.
The five kinds of fishing glasses we compared.
You've tilted your head, cupped a hand over your eyes, and still couldn't see past the glare.
Glare hides fish. Every pair below says it fixes that. But the light on the water changes all day, from grey dawn to hard noon sun, and most of us pay a lot for one lens that only works for part of it.
Here's what each option actually gets you.
What we judged them on

The ranking
#5
CHEAP, AND IT SHOWS
Gas station shades
D
Dark, but often not polarized. The glare is still there, you just see it darker.
Cheap
Easy to find
Often not polarized
No lens for low light
Flimsy frame
Verdict: Fine for the drive. Useless for spotting fish.
#4
LOTS OF LENSES, LITTLE USE
The multi-lens bargain kit
C
One frame and a bag of clip-in lenses. Swapping lenses with wet hands on a rocking boat? You won't. You'll leave the same one in all day.
Several tints for the money
Swapping lenses on the water is a pain
One frame: lose it, lose everything
Lenses scratch in the bag
Verdict: Good idea, annoying in real life.
#3
GOOD, HALF THE DAY
The one-lens "fishing" brand
B-
Properly polarized and decent. But it's one tint: great at noon, too dark at first light and under clouds.
Properly polarized
Built for fishing
One tint for every light
Too dark at dawn and dusk
Verdict: Solid, but only for part of the day.
#2
GREAT LENS, GREAT BIG LOGO
The $250 big-brand pair
B
Great lens. Still one tint. And most of the price is the logo: the big fishing brands now belong to large European luxury and eyewear groups.
Excellent optics
Well built
One tint
Most of the price is the brand
Hurts to lose overboard
Verdict: Great, until it's at the bottom of the lake.
Full disclosure: this one's ours. Three complete polarized pairs, one for every light: Copper for sun to partly cloudy, Amber for dawn, dusk and grey days, Blue Mirror for bright sun and open water. Grippy TR90 frames that stay put. Owned by fishermen, sold straight to anglers. One lens all day is like fishing all day with one lure. The first grey morning you put on Amber, the weed edge shows up like someone switched on a light.
A lens for every light, no swapping
A spare if one goes overboard
Lost or broken? 1 free replacement (1 yr)
Less than a third of one $250 pair
Only sold online, not in tackle shops
Verdict: A lens for every light, for less than a third of one $250 pair.
